Conformed Dimension Essay Example for Free
Conformed Dimension Essay Conformed dimensions are a crucial component of the successful dimensional design. With the right dimension design and content, it is possible to compare facts from different fact tables, both within a subject area and across the enterprise. They can do more than enable drilling across; they serve as the focus for planning enterprise analytic capability. Dimensional design is usually implemented in parts. Regardless of the style, it is impractical to organize a single project that will encompass the entire enterprise. A realistic project scope is achieved by subdividing the enterprise into subject areas and areas into projects. At a logical level, when a series of stars share a set of common dimensions, the dimensions are referred to as conformed dimensions. Identical dimensions ensure conformance, but can take several other forms as well. Fact tables and conformed dimensions can be planned and documented in matrix format and serve as the blueprint for incremental implementation. Dimensions tables can conform in several ways. Shared dimensions, degenerate dimension and conformed rollups are three ways. A fourth style of conformance is less commonly accepted; it allows for overlapping dimensions. Tables that can conform when the dimension attributes of one are a subset of another are known up as a rollup dimension and a base dimension. They will not share a common surrogate key, but the common attributes must possess the same structure and consent. Degenerate dimensions can serve as the basis for conformance. The corresponding columns should consistent in the structure and content. But it is not required that every fact table share the same set of instance combinations, as to do would force violation od sparsity. Overlapping dimensions can also conform. Some designers prefer to avoid this situation, since it requires that multiple processes load equivalent dimensions columns in the same way. Conformed dimensions are the key to enterprise scope, serving as the infrastructure that integrates subject areas. This means that the dimensional design, including a conformance plan must be conducted as a strategic, upfront process. The conforming dimensions are best illustrated through matrices since the number of criss-crossing relationships can easily clutter a table diagram. The matrices can describe conformance within a data mart or across the data marts. They are a central feature of dimensional data warehouse architecture, produced as part of strategic design effort. It allows individual implementation to proceed individually, ensuring they will fit together as each comes online. In a Corporate Information Factory, information is extracted from the enterprise data warehouse and organized for departmental use in data marts. Because the data marts of the Corporate Information Factory draw their information from an integrated repository, the challenges of maintaining conformance are reduced, at least from the perspective of the dimensional modelers. The burden of bringing together disparate source is still present, nut it falls to the designers of the enterprise data warehouse. Designers of the dimensional data marts need only concern themselves with a single view of information: that provide by the enterprise data warehouse. Conformance is still a necessity with the data mart and conformance across data marts can help avoid the need for additional data marts to cross subject areas. Stand-alone data mart lacks an enterprise context. They do not conform and the associated risk can partially mitigated by planning for conformance of a few key dimensions. The stand-alone data may exhibit conformance internally, it is likely to be incompatible with other data marts. Stand- alone data marts may be retrofitted to work with existing conformed dimensions, but this process is not trivial.
AA Meeting Review Essay Example for Free
AA Meeting Review Essay Walking into the AA meeting made me feel very awkward and out of place, but as the meeting began and everyone started sharing their stories I began to feel comfortable about being there. When I first went in the room the chairs were set up in a circle with some on the outside of it. I decided to take a seat on the outside so I wouldnââ¬â¢t be of focus during the meeting. They started the meeting off with reading some inspirational words and then reading the 12 steps. Their focus tonight was on a higher power and how believing in that higher power helps you stay sober. After brief introductions and stating their names, they began discussion and whoever wanted to speak had the opportunity to do so. Listening to all of their stories was really interesting. Almost all of the members have been sober for at least 30 days and more and about four people were just recently sober, with one being sober only three days now. One of the memberââ¬â¢s stories really stood out to me. He said that he has been an alcoholic for years now, but always believed he can cure himself and control how many drinks he has. See more:à The Story of an Hour Literary Analysis Essay He mentioned that he went out last week with his buddies and wasnââ¬â¢t able to stop himself from going overboard with the drinking. He said he was in a blackout for four days and lost his job. Thatââ¬â¢s why he ended up at the treatment center; he said he realized that it isnââ¬â¢t possible to be a social drinker when you are an alcoholic. During his story he explained how he had the shakes and the classic withdrawal symptoms and I began to think about what I had learned in class and related it. Another memberââ¬â¢s story was about social drinking. She said that her friend was coming home that she knew from college and wanted to get together. She thought about the friendship and realized that she wasnââ¬â¢t a friend and that she was just an old party buddy. She explained that she has a whole new group of sober friends that she hangs out with and that she canââ¬â¢t hang out with her old friends of whom she always went out and drank with. She started saying how she realized she doesnââ¬â¢t even like the sport of football and that she always went out to bars to watch it with friends because it was a time for social drinking. It brought to light that anything can become an excuse for people to partake in social drinking and too much social drinking can turn into alcoholism for some people. Another patient mentioned that she had her first drink at four years old and was in treatment by ten. I was really perplexed by that comment, thinking how could somebody even know what alcohol is at the age of four. She didnââ¬â¢t elaborate on what or how it happened, so I was just left in shock by that. There were many other stories told and I felt good after hearing all of them. Itââ¬â¢s so nice to see everybody get close with each other and be there for one another when theyââ¬â¢re having a bad day or week. They celebrate the landmarks of each otherââ¬â¢s length of sobriety and thatââ¬â¢s really heartwarming to see. They ended the meeting with the 12 promises and a prayer. Overall, after getting over the initial feeling of awkwardness, it was a successful experience and got to hear about the personal effects of alcohol on their lives.

Education Before And After French Revolution History Essay
Education Before And After French Revolution History Essay The French revolution enabled a major shift in the history of modern France, and it even affected the rest of the European communities. Indeed, such great incidents like the French revolution would change a lot in the systems of France, regarding to the educational system which was highly effected, In order to talk about the effect of the French revolution over the education in France, the state of the French education before the revolution must be well understood. I believe, The French revolution gave the education in France a great chance to start developing and spreading. The educational facilities before the French revolution and under the Ancien regime were in a better position than any other European country. France had witnessed an improvement in the educational activities cased by the Renaissance, and that was in the middle of the 16th century. But yet the educational institutions were badly distributed, and needed to be reformed. Although France had witness a lot of religious conflicts, which concluded with the country being taken over effectively by the Catholic domination. We can say that the government involvement in the matters of education was not that great and the Catholic church had the huge part of taking control over the educational system. According to La Chalotais, in general, the Kings government left all matters pertaining to education in the hand of local bishop and the religious orders(1971). In spite of the fact that the educational system was directly or indirectly under the control of the Church, but we can not pass by and not mention that the state has show concerns about the education in France in many ways, for example, in 1698 a decree was issued that children from the age of seven were to be obliged to attend Catholic schools up to the age of fourteen. One significant educational development was the change of the scholars language from Latin to French. Reaching the period exactly before the revolution, the idea of a general education started to develop in France. Since that, during the French revolution (1789-1799) The state of the country was not stable at all, most people would think that the education is the last thing French people would think about in such crises, but the truth was that the leaders of the revolution had the education in their priorities. And in the early stages of the revolution there was a lot of concerns about the revolution, but few institutional actions. Still, by 1789 the level of development of the French system of education was remarkable for its time. Enrolment in elementary schools was relatively high and 562 secondary schools boasted 74,747 student, 40,000 of whom had scholarships(4). It is true that the destructive component of the revolution has effected the education, but the only explanation was because what ever was before the revolution has to go. But it is fair to say that the revolutionaries also looked at the state of the education from many aspects, like the duties and prerogatives of the state, the r ights of parents, the potential benefits of higher education, the economic needs of the nation, the necessity for training teachers, and the suitable status of the teaching profession in a republic(5). The first changes made to the French community were basically related to religion. It can be said that the revaluation wanted to change any thing related to the old system, including the great position that was occupied by the church. In fact , as the revolutionaries were destroying the statues that presented the church at Notre Dame, they were removing every influence made by the church in the education system. What was really weird and in the same time interesting, is that the leaders of the revolution were willing to change almost anything related to the old system except the idea of educating women. Actually most of the revolution leaders believed that only men should have the right of education because they will engaged in the state affairs. And women do not need education becaus e their role was to take care of the family and the raise children. By 1794 a kind of a normal life was founded, and that was a result of the execution of Robespierre. This kind of normal life gave the government the chance to give attention to the education reform. A decree soon followed, that the number one important thing regarding the education was the training of teachers. And the curriculum of the schools contains republican morality and the public and private virtues, as well as the techniques of teaching reading, writing, arithmetic, practical geometry, French history and grammar; and books must be used and not any books but the ones which is described in the Convention.(1) One more thing the revolutionaries wanted to make sure to change was the spoken language, as there were a great many different languages and dialects were spoken. The Revolutionary Government left the part of guiding citizens to one language to schools.(6) According to Vignery, although the Old Regime system creased to exist, some schools on all levels survived the onslaughts of the Revolution.(5) These schools called private schools. Baileys historical study of the French colleges shows clearly that they survived the revolutions radical stages by adapting to their changing environment and mobilizing the resources they had inherited from the Old Regime.(4) Larger and wealthier schools were more likely to remain open . in 1798 the government tried to take over the control on these schools but no much success was established, but in 1799 the government managed to control private schools in some regions. And in an attempt of the government to have a competitive advantage over any private school, the government had a condition that if some one want to get a position with the government to apply an evidence that he had went to a Republic school.(1) As oboist of some might expect, the state of French public education especially the one of central schools, was weak. Number of flows was there, for example the lack of efficient teachers and more substantial the lack of efficient students as well. Actually, the schools of Paris and other areas with high rate of population did very well, but in the rest of the country things was not as good as they should be. Another serious problem was that requires of a graduate from a central school was not really reasonable at all times, either academic or curricular. Lastly, we can say that the central schools did not reach the goals it was made to establish. And it needed some one great to help reaching these goals. After the revolution, and under the new system Napoleon toke over most of the power. And in 1804, Napoleon became the Emperor of France and had the ultimate control over the government. Napoleon managed to make France the most powerful country of Europe and that was by making a lot of changes in the system of the country. Napoleon always believed in education and had it in its priorities, and he also believed in efficient kind of education and for this to come true, education in France must spread majorly especially regarding the secondary level. There was number of problems that the French people complained about, like the lack of schools in several areas plus the lack of efficiency in the teaching faculty, not to mention the lack of commitment to attend among students and in some areas the lack of religious kind of education.(1)

Possible solutions for poverty in Egypt In the past two years, Egypt has experienced enormous protests in which millions of Egyptians went of rebelling against the authoritarian rule who has suppressed them for years. For the first time Egyptian citizens decide to take a stand and fight for their legitimate rights in being able to find proper food, to gain freedom and equality. Moreover, this event mainly took place on the 25th of January, 2011; the dictatorship regime that has been ruling for thirty years fell to the ground. We can deduce from the event that this revolution mostly occurred due to the oppression, poverty, social equality, censorship and the aim of democratizing the country (O'Neill). However, one of the most important factors I do believe for the January 25th revolution is the crucial poverty that made normal citizens not able to satisfy their own basic needs; so they did find any way out of their problems except by revolting on this totalitarianism regime. Poverty has been a pervasive issue in Brazil and Egypt that influenced males, females and children in a specific social class all around the whole nation. To be able to deduce the crucial poverty rates there are an extraordinary number of things that could be carried out ; As Brazil did the priorities to make a better county that is free from poverty .Firstly, they were completely invested how to create the needed requirements to be development in the economy with the goal that more organizations could be made and more work accessible to the county's populace; In addition this kind of Work permitted people who lived in this poor circumstances to profit with the goal that they can purchase sustenance and different necessities for themselves and their famil... ... as a consequence, poverty rates can shrink noticeably through education(TheWorldBank). Thus, working on educational programs is crucial to be able to reduce the poverty issue in Egypt. To conclude, Poverty has been and is continuing to be a major issue all around the globe, not only one nation. In my opinion all the suggestions that were conducted by the article to diminish the poverty problem are so beneficial and real. As in the case of the Brazil trying to reduce poverty as mentioned before; they tried to work on many aspects; like, strengthening the economy of the country to be able to create new job vacancies to people to improve their living circumstances. However, the most aspect that as a country was invested in was education; therefore, this is the perfect model that Egypt need to adopt right now to be able to fight the elevated rates of poverty.

feminaw Portrayal of Men in Kate Chopins The Awakening Essay
The Portrayal of Men in The Awakening When Kate Chopin develops the male characters in her novel, The Awakening, she portrays men in a very objectionable light. For the most part, her men are possessive, cowardly and self-serving. She seems a trifle unfair and biased in her portrayal of men, yet this view is necessary for Chopin to get her point across. She uses the characters of Mr. Pontellier, Robert, Alcee and a few other men to demonstrate her observations of the middle class man in the society of her day. Firstly, Mr. Pontellier represents Kate Chopin's supposition that in society men objectify women. A wife is a man's property, he "looks at his wife as one looks at a valuable piece of property which has suffered some damage"(44) and his possession, "he greatly valued his possessions, chiefly because they were his"(99). Mr. Pontellier treats Edna like a child, commanding and demeaning her,"Send him about his business when he bores you,' instructed her husband"(45) while also scolding her "he reproached his wife with her inattention, her habitual neglect of the children"(48). At the same time, he requires that she play the role of his wife,"Tuesday being Mrs. Pontellier's reception day..attired in a handsome gown, she remained in the drawing-room the entire afternoon receiving her visitors"(100). Chopin also uses Pontellier to indicate that she conceives men as dominating, for example, on page 77 and 78, when Edna refuses to go inside, Mr. Pontellier joins her outside and waits until s he decides to go in. Chopin also shows Pontellier taking out his anger at Edna for going out on Tuesday afternoon, by complaining about the cook(108). Next,Alcee Arobin symbo... ... confidence to me, perhaps I might help you. I know I would understand, and I tell you there are not many who would--not many, my dear(171), "I don't want you to blame yourself, whatever comes"(172). Unfortunately, it is already to late, for when Edna returns and finds Robert's note, her grief can not be contained. After she swims out , she looks back and thinks "perhaps Doctor Mandelet would have understood if she had seen him--but it was too late"(176). Put simply, Kate Chopin uses The Awakening to exercise her observations of men in her society. In the present, it is hard to see her accusations as accurate since society has changed considerably. But regarding the time and setting of her story, Chopin's views are quite accurate and fair, although unappealing to the men who read her book, which eventually made her and The Awakening so unpopular.

Effective Communication Skills Essay -- Message, Feedback
Introduction An important step to becoming an effective leader is to develop effective communication skills. Communication is the transmission of meaning from one person to another or to many people, whether verbally or non-verbally (Barrett, 2006). Effective communication enables leaders to lead. Effective communication occurs only if the receiver understands the exact information or idea that the sender intended to covey. As a leader, studying the communication process is important. Communication skills, including the ability to problem solve, work in teams, and adapt to various audiences, are critical in todayââ¬â¢s workplace (Levy& Murname, 2004). Since the most successful leaders communicate well, understanding how your communication is working and how it might work better is critical to achieving similar success. The purpose of this paper is to assess my communication skills and develop a recipe for successful communication that other leaders can use to evaluate their communication skills. I will outline my approach to assessing my communication skills and describe my development plan for improving those skills. Methods According to Chambers (2001), communicating is a complex process. The ability to draft a message, deliver it to another, listen for feedback, process it, and continue to communicate in ways that are understood requires skills that take time to develop. The best place to start is to first understand which communication skills need development. The first tool I used to perform my self- assessment was a comprehensive communication evaluation tool developed by IHC Health Services (see Appendix A). I chose this instrument because I wanted to start my assessment by measuring my overall understanding of the... ... communicator. My second goal is to understand the different communication styles and adjust my communication style to the needs of others. This goal will be achieved once I have mastered the art of altering my behavior so that it fits better with another personââ¬â¢s style. This skill will need to be practiced and honed until it is perfected. It will take time to master this skill. Conclusion Improving communication skills should be a priority for all leaders. Becoming an effective communicator takes practice. Identifying communication skills to personally work on is the first step in becoming a better communicator and better leader. Great leaders recognize the importance of good communication. Responsible leaders work to prevent communication mishaps and keep the communication flowing throughout their organizations.

Ideas and Beliefs in Justine Larbalestierââ¬â¢s Liar Essay
Justine Larbalestierââ¬â¢s enthralling novel Liar features unreliable protagonist, Micah Wilkins, dealing with issues of identity and truth. I have come to realise, through studying Larbalestierââ¬â¢s novel, that the ideas of truth and identity can be extensively challenged, that lies can become someoneââ¬â¢s identity. Micahââ¬â¢s cryptic character has forced me to question what I trust and who I think I am. I have been faced with rethinking my views on sexuality, gender roles, guilt and the real meaning of ââ¬Ëtruthââ¬â¢ due to Micahââ¬â¢s questionable and unpredictable words. Due to societyââ¬â¢s restrictive and sexist attitudes towards what is considered male or female, people who donââ¬â¢t fit neatly into a category face issues of identity and belonging. Micahââ¬â¢s relationship with her sexuality and how she perceives gender roles is extraordinarily untidy and indecisive. Being a teenage feminist myself, I can identify with Micah not desiring to subscribe to gender roles although Iââ¬â¢m not entirely sure Micah is avoiding acting and looking conventionally ââ¬Ëfeminineââ¬â¢ because of feminist views. I believe Micah is genderqueer or transgender and too afraid to embrace it because it is a hard truth for her to face, ââ¬Å"Being a boy was fast becoming my favourite lieâ⬠(p. 8). When Micah talks about her taking the pill to supress her periods she says ââ¬Å"I wish I was a manâ⬠and that ââ¬Å"[Her mother] thought having your period was what made you a womanâ⬠(p. 57). Perhaps Larbalestier is implying that Micah is not a woman because she doesnââ¬â¢t experience menstruation? Being a woman comes with oppression no matter what class or race you are in; this oppression is more often than not related to sex. Micah constantly refers to being called a ââ¬Ëslutââ¬â¢ by her peers, ââ¬Å"By kissing [Sarah and Tayshawn] first I confirmed the thousand slut callsâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ (p. 238). I believe there is a part of Micah that subconsciously oppresses herself. Right after Micah tells the reader she never slept with Zach she said, ââ¬Å"See? I am a good girl after allâ⬠(p. 116). This tells me that Micah believes being a ââ¬Ëgood girlââ¬â¢ is not having sex- this only emphasises my suspicion that Micah desires to be a man because men are free of the ââ¬Ëslutââ¬â¢ label. She has desires that she feels she canââ¬â¢t pursue without judgement due to her being a biological woman. Identity can be formed from the constructed truth and straight-out lies; people can create their own realities. ââ¬Å"[The worst danger of being a liar] is when you start to believe your own liesâ⬠(p. 194). Micahââ¬â¢s story suggests that when you begin to believe your own lies, it shapes who you are and becomes your ââ¬Ëtruthââ¬â¢. I believe Jordanââ¬â¢s death contributed to Micahââ¬â¢s muddled identity, that his death was so traumatic that she created a world of her own to escape the reality. I believe that Micah was responsible for her brotherââ¬â¢s death because of how she refers to him: vile, horrible and awful. Micah depicts Jordan as being this way so itââ¬â¢s easier for her to deal with her guilt, ââ¬Å"â⬠¦maybe the world is better the way I tell itâ⬠(p. 34), ââ¬Å"We donââ¬â¢t talk about [Jordanââ¬â¢s death]. I canââ¬â¢t think about itâ⬠(p. 284). My assumption with this theory was formed by my own experiences. Whenever I have lost something of value, I told myself that it wasnââ¬â¢t that great or important anyway which resulted in less guilt and unhappiness; we lie to ourselves in hope of finding protection from confronting notions. Perhaps the reality Micah has formed for herself actually becomes reality, her truth. Society has conditioned us to accept certain pieces of information without questionning whether it really is the truth. More than with any other work of fiction I have read, Liar led me to question whether what the protagonist said was true. In the first part of the novel ââ¬ËTelling The Truthââ¬â¢, Micah is supposedly being honest and sincere with the reader when she reveals she is a liar; this idea in itself is problematic and intensely complicated. The way Larbalestier has written Liar challenged me, for the first time, to question why I believe what I do; why did this particular work of fiction spark such a notion, such a feeling of distrust and uncertainty? Should I have these feelings with everything I read? Whilst talking about her ability to spin detailed lies, Micah says ââ¬Å"Itââ¬â¢s odd how often telling the truth feels like lying and lying like the truthâ⬠(p. 53). I believe this can be reversed and applied to the reader: itââ¬â¢s easier to believe lies and reject truth. Constantly throughout the novel, Micah reassures the reader that she isnââ¬â¢t lying and that sheââ¬â¢s a ââ¬Ëgood girlââ¬â¢; this shows that she is trying to convince herself of those things and using the reader as a distraction, a scapegoat. Micah also sounds condescending and makes the reader feel small by saying things like ââ¬Å"You buy everything, donââ¬â¢t you? You make it too easyâ⬠(p. 225). This directly links back to the idea that Larbalestier is forcing the reader to evaluate why we trust and believe what we do. Every story has an underlying moral, intentional or not, and I believe Liarââ¬â¢s is ââ¬ËDonââ¬â¢t believe everything you readââ¬â¢. Liar has addressed many ideas and issues such as societyââ¬â¢s view towards gender roles, identities created by oneââ¬â¢s self, and being accepting of certain information despite the validity being possibly compromised. Larbalestier has made me question more about my values and beliefs than I thought possible. Iââ¬â¢ve formed the belief that lies are a part of all of us, unintentionally or otherwise ââ¬â they become our truth. Micah has made me think about why we as humans try so hard to seek the truth and then lie to ourselves when itââ¬â¢s too unbelievable. Larbalestierââ¬â¢s open-to-interpretation styled-writing is almost metaphorical in relation to life. No truth is absolute, nothing is exactly what it seems and everything is affected by an individualââ¬â¢s perception.
